What skills does my child need to play lacrosse?

Lacrosse can be played by athletes of all skills.  Proficiency in throwing and catching will yield the most fun and allow other aspects of the game to be enjoyed.  We expect most players will have little experience. We will teach them the skills.

Will the new players have an opportunity to learn basic skills before the season?
Players are not required to know how to play prior to the start of the season but it is helpful to have some knowledge.  We try to have some free clinics prior to the season to show kids the game. Watch the clinics tab on our website for updates

When is our season?

Lacrosse is considered a spring sport and will start in mid Janruary , and ends at the end of  April.
Lacrosse typically overlaps a bit with baseball and soccer.

Does my child need to be an experienced player or are new players welcome?
New players are very welcome. Our coaches will stress fundamentals: scooping ground balls, passing, and catching. Our intention is to educate the players and to have fun. It is our intention that all players will play regardless of capabilities. We want this to be a fun and interactive experience for all players at all ages.

How many players are on a lacrosse field at any point in time and what are the positions?
Boy’s lacrosse is played with ten players on each side. Lacrosse positions break down to four basic roles, they are:
Attack (3) – Offensive players focused on scoring goals
Midfielders (3) – Players that play both offense and defense
Defenders (3) – Defensive players focused on defending the goal
Goalies (1) – Last line of defense committed to preventing the ball from entering the goal

What equipment do Boys wear?
Boys wear the following mandatory equipment:
Lacrosse Helmet
Lacrosse Shoulder Pads
Lacrosse Arm Guards
Lacrosse Gloves
Lacrosse Stick
Mouthpiece
Cleats
Cup
Uniform Shirt and Shorts

What equipment do Girls wear?
Girls wear the following equipment all of which is mandatory:
Girls Lacrosse Gloves
Girls Lacrosse Stick
Girls Lacrosse Goggles
Mouthpiece
Uniform Shirt and Skirt/Shorts

Will Boca Jets Lacrosse provide player equipment?
Boca Jets Lacrosse will not furnish player equipment.  All players are responsible for their own equipment including purchase and maintenance. We will however supply a goalie with a goalie stick and a goalie chest protector for you to use for the season. You can purchase equipment from the internet or from any local vendor.  There are several in our area.  Other than the local sporting goods store you can purchase equipment at Lacrosse Unlimited in Boca Raton, MacWear Athletics in Delray Beach, or Lacrossewear in Coconut Creek. Please tell them you are from the Boca Jets Lacrosse program.

How often will the teams meet for practice and games?
Players will practice two evenings per week with games played on Saturdays.

Where will practice and games be held?
All practices will be at either Patch Reef Park or South County Regional Park. All home games will be help at our home field of Patch Reef Park.

Can I sponsor a team or make a donation to the league?
Yes Boca Jets Lacrosse, Inc. is a 501.c.3 non-profit corporation.  All contributions are tax deductible.  We are actively seeking sponsorships at all levels!  Please contact Adrine Penbe at

How is game playing time decided

EQUAL GAME PLAY TIME IN OUR PROGRAM IS NOT GUARANTEED BUT RATHER EARNED THROUGH ATTENDANCE AT PRACTICE AND EFFORT DISPLAYED IN PRACTICE AND GAMES. SKILL OR TALENT LEVEL IS NOT USED AS THE BASIS FOR GAME PLAY TIME, EXCEPT POSSIBLY DURING THE LAST FEW MINUTES OF A CLOSE GAME OR DURING OVERTIME. EFFORT Players who choose to “dog it”, “loaf”, “goof off”, or disregard the coaches’ instruction take away from the quality of the team experience and take away from the experience of those working hard. Players are expected to show effort. Team coaches will determine if any player is not displaying legitimate effort in practice or games.Players who do not attain the attendance goals or lack effort will still play in games but game play time will be at the discretion of the coach.

Does my child need to attend every practice?

We prefer players attend all practices.  Please refer to the question above regarding playing time if your child does not attend practice

Why does my child need to have a valid US Lacrosse number?

Our local governing body SFYLL mandates that each participant of Boca Jets Lacrosse be a member. In addition US Lacrosse provides mandatory insurance coverage to our program and your child. Please note that EACH player must have his/her OWN, current membership....the Boca Jets registration program is integrated with US Lacrosse and will not proceed without a valid US Lacrosse number
